Clayton, you've made some good points, and I totally understand why it doesn't make sense for you. Twitter is definitely not for everyone, and I regret I didn't point that out. It does pose real security risks (although so does your average city street if you walk along it with your wallet out, counting your cash publicly). And I have seen mediators boast of their prowess at the table in a way I'm not sure their clients would appreciate. You can embarrass yourself online all too easily if you don't pay attention.

However, for my purposes it works just fine, and I've appreciated the connections I've made and the ones that I've deepened thanks to Twitter. It also in some ways works better than following blogs for me, in terms of learning news and information of interest - it's the water cooler aspect of Twitter that I particularly like. But that's me, and your needs are different.

No matter what, it's a matter of finding the channels for connecting that work and make sense for you and your business, never mind what the rest of the lemmings may be doing. Thanks for a different perspective - it's always good to hear from you.

Hi Diane, sorry, I'm "not on board" with any benefit from Twitter. It' "too open" and yes, there is a criminal element, I could give examples I've read on professional posts I monitor, really dangerous. It's a trend for now and is social and overwhelming. All of the "don'ts" tip the balance for me and it just not worth the time for B2B socializing rather than B2C networking, which is really what most users hope for... a contract or some practical result. It does have great value for big companies wanting to "brand" in every media channel they can and for social groups wanting to know which after hours club everyone is going to after the rave... but that's it.

Thanks for identifying my 22 reasons why I use twitter. You have some very good insights into how to use twitter and why. I agree with you, it is like the town square. It is also like the virtual water cooler. You get to chat for a little bit about the wonderful things going on in your business and life.
