Dear friends,

Last night the unthinkable happened: someone hacked my blog, vandalizing my database. Needless to say, this has been very upsetting. I feel sad, and yes, really, really pissed off that someone would target my blog this way, particularly when my work — conflict resolution — is involved in trying to make the world a nicer place to be.

I had thought I had taken the appropriate precautions, but it turns out that the newest version of Wordpress I upgraded to over the weekend may have a vulnerability that someone was able to exploit. Please take care, fellow bloggers.

In the meantime, please bear with me as I try to recover the site and all my hard work over three years.

Help and moral support would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks, friends,

Diane

    Dear Diane,

So sorry to see the news about hacking. We use a word press blog — but my techie (my sister, actually) has been using an older version of Word press. I’ve alerted her to this problem.

The blog looks fine, so I’m assuming you’ve rectified the problem. What a lot of aggro, though!

Sorry to hear about this. It looks you had the db backed up. Hope that you didn’t lose too much. See if your host provider can provide you with an automatic daily backup of the db.

    What a nightmare!

A word of caution just in case you’re thinking to upgrade again: Make sure your database is completely backed up first. One of my colleagues just upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress (just released a couple of days ago) and his database was wiped out entirely.

It’s my feeling that there will be yet another upgrade to fix the bugs very soon.
